CRRC Zhuzhou is to supply two electric locomotives for the rail network serving Serbia's Nikola Tesla power stations.

SERBIA: Chinese manufacturer CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive has won an international tender to supply two electric locomotives for use on the dedicated rail network which the state electricity generator uses to haul lignite from the Kolubara open cast mines to its Nikola Tesla power stations.

The TSI-compliant 25 kV 50 Hz locomotives will be rated at 7 MW and have a maximum speed of 140 km/h.

The power company’s transport division currently operates a fleet of Končar Class 411 and Škoda Class 443 electric locomotives as well as several types of diesel locomotive. Its traffic of around 25 million tonnes/year is significantly higher than the total freight traffic carried by national railway company ZS.

The power company also operates a 5 km network of 900 mm gauge lines at the mines.
