European Locomotive Leasing has signed a framework agreement covering up to 50 Siemens Vectron locomotives.

EUROPE: The signing of framework agreement for the delivery of up to 50 Vectron electric passenger and freight locomotives to European Locomotive Leasing was announced by Siemens on June 3.

This includes a firm order for locomotives to be delivered from Q2 2016 for use on international corridors running from the Netherlands to Italy or Romania, from Germany to Romania via Austria and Hungary, and also within Germany, Austria and Hungary.

The 6·4 MW locomotives with a maximum speed of 200 km/h will be equipped with ETCS as well as national train control systems. The framework agreement includes provision for ELL to order locomotives for services to Scandinavia and an option for locomotives with diesel power modules.

The new framework follows a 2014 agreement which covered 50 locomotives which have now either been delivered or are on order. ELL founder and CEO Christoph Katzensteiner said the latest deal would enable it to ‘support our customers' growth in new national markets’.
