EUROPE: Mitsui Rail Capital Europe has ordered a further 21 electric locomotives, Siemens announced on October 13, which will take the leasing company’s Vectron fleet to 56 locomotives.

The latest order includes 10 locomotives equipped for 15 kV 16·7 Hz operation in Germany and Austria, and 11 multi-system locomotives also able operate in Italy. All will be equipped with ETCS as well as national train protection systems, and will be rated at 6·4 MW with a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

The locomotives are to be supplied from Siemens’ München-Allach plant, where three had been built speculatively and have already been delivered. ‘By keeping locomotives in stock we are able to fulfil orders even faster’, said Jochen Eickholt, CEO of Siemens’ Mobility Division. ‘This is a unique selling point in the industry.’
