SWITZERLAND: Metre-gauge operator Zentralbahn has awarded Stadler a contract to supply five more Adler electric multiple-units and three Fink units. These will provide additional capacity by 2030 to handle increasing leisure traffic including the growth of international tourism.
The SFr192·7m order was signed on September 6. Three of the Adler units will be deployed on the Luzern – Interlaken route, and two on the Luzern – Engelberg route. The Fink units will be used primarily between Meiringen and Interlaken.

Zentralbahn has previously ordered six seven-car Adler (Alpiner, dynamischer, leiser, eleganter, Reisezug; Alpine dynamic quiet elegant train) ABeh150 EMUs and 18 three-car FINK (flinke, innovative niederflur-komposition; fast innovative low-floor train) ABeh160 and 161 units. Both types are equipped with the Riggenbach rack system.
‘With the new rolling stock, we can significantly reduce the load on today’s hourly trains and create more capacity for commuters and day trippers’, said Nicolas Ludin, Head of Marketing & Sales at Zentralbahn. ‘We can also better manage our international guests. With the new premium compartment, we are also setting a strong example of innovation and enhancing the travel experience.’
