EUROPE: Project promoter Femern A/S has published an OJEU prior information notice for the contract to provide electrical and mechanical systems for the future 18 km Fehmarn Belt rail and motorway tunnel between Denmark and Germany. An industry day is to be held in København on January 21.

The scope of the E&M tender includes ventilation, emergency doors, fire prevention systems, drainage, cables and pipework, transformers, lighting, monitoring and control systems as well as communication systems.

Two smaller contracts for architectural lighting and the road tolling system will be awarded later.

Nine international consortia are tendering for construction of the tunnel, which will be assembled in an excavated trench using 79 standard 217 m x 42 m x 9 m pre-cast elements and 10 special elements incorporating drainage sumps and plant rooms.

'As we're building the world's largest immersed tunnel, the design and installation of the advanced electrical and mechanical equipment will, of course, be a major undertaking and a challenge', said Steen Lykke, Technical Director at Femern A/S
