UK: Abellio Greater Anglia has completed an upgrade of 24 four-car Class 317/6 electric multiple-units that operate between London and Cambridge, Cheshunt and Hertford East.

The £1·3m project was carried out by the operator’s own fleet maintenance team at Clacton-on-Sea. The interior refresh includes new seat covers, vinyl flooring, carpets and signage, as well as resprayed interiors.

Customer Service Director Andrew Goodrum said that the scheme had been delivered ahead of schedule. The first refurbished unit re-entered service in June.

  • Eversholt Rail Group has awarded Vossloh Kiepe a contract for the retractioning of Class 321 EMUs, as part of the Renatus programme to upgrade 30 of the units. Trials with Greater Anglia started in 2013, and the first pre-series unit operated under its own power in early December. The traction package features three-phase AC traction motors, a single water-cooled inverter per motor and an ABB transformer.
