GERMANY: Federal railway office EBA has certified the Pesa Link diesel multiple-unit for operation in Germany, the manufacturer announced on June 3. Regional operator Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn intends to use the DMUs to operate Netz Ostbrandenburg services between Berlin and Kostrzyń on the Polish side of the border.

NEB placed a €27m order in August 2013 for seven two-car and two three-car Link DMUs. Testing of the first was completed in November 2015, with two DMUs being used for driver training from February. They were officially handed over to NEB on May 19.

Each two-car DMU has two MTU engines that meet Euro IIIB emission regulations, and is able to reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h. The 43·7 m long units have 140 seats, two wheelchair spaces, 12 bicycle spaces and room for up to 80 standing passengers. They are equipped with CCTV, air-conditioning, a wheelchair accessible toilet and an audio-visual passenger information system.
