Six-party talks between representatives of railways of Kazakhstan, China, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkey (Photo KTZ)

ASIA: Senior leaders from the national railways of Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey met in Tehran on May 12 to discuss multilateral co-operation to develop an effective China – Kazakhstan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Turkey –Europe transport corridor.

The parties approved competitive tariffs and agreed key parameters for organising rail services, including maintaining an approved journey time along the entire route.

Kazakhstan’s KTZ reporgted that there was clear demand, with container traffic on the China – Kazakhstan – Iran route from January to April this year running at 260% of the levels recorded in the same period last year.
