USA: Canadian National completed the merger of three US operating subsidiaries on December 31, with the Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range Railway and the Duluth, Winnipeg & Pacific Railway becoming part of Wisconsin Central Ltd.
'CN expects the merger will lead to operational efficiencies and service improvements through the integration of distinct workforces in and around the Twin Ports region of Duluth, Minnesota, and Superior, Wisconsin,' said Jim Vena, Senior Vice-President, CN Southern Region. 'A unified workforce will allow better management of crew staffing and more efficient and reliable rail service to customers throughout the region, including those in the Mesabi iron ore range and beyond.'
