ROMANIA: Metrans has signed a binding agreement to acquire a 50% in Afluent’s Arad South Terminal, its first intermodal terminal in Romania.
The facility with four 350 m tracks, two reach stackers and 750 TEU of container storage covers 3·5 ha and could be expanded to 82 ha.
The Metrans subsidiary of Hamburg port operator HHLA plans to integrate the Arad terminal into its existing transport network. It will operate up to three trains per week between its Budapest Csepel hub and Arad, offering connections to București and opportunities for links to and from the Black Sea port of Constanța.
‘By investing in the Arad South Terminal, we are opening up entirely new opportunities for reliable and efficient transport between Romania and the rest of Europe’, explained Metrans CEO Peter Kiss on March 24. ‘This step strengthens our position in southeast Europe and delivers added value for our customers. At the same time, it significantly enhances the Romanian market, which will now be seamlessly connected to key ports and inland terminals across central and western Europe as well as to strategic hubs in the Adriatic region.’
