FRANCE: RFF has awarded Alstom Transport and Legrand SA a €40m contract to supply signalling for the second phase of LGV Est Européen, Alstom announced on January 30.

Running for 106 km between Baudrecourt and Vendenheim, Phase 2 is due to open in 2016. It will complete high speed infrastructure between Paris and Strasbourg, cutting the fastest end-to-end journey to 1 h 50 min.

Alstom says that its share of the contract is worth €30m. As lead partner, the company will be responsible for design, installation and testing work, as well as the supply of equipment including power supplies, cabling and related signalling equipment.

Alstom has recently completed work on a similar contract to supply RFF with signalling for the first phase of LGV Rhin-Rhône, which opened to traffic on December 11 2011.
