TURKMENISTAN: Huawei has been awarded a contract to supply telecoms for the 288 km Chilmammet - Buzhun section of the north-south rail corridor which is under construction to link Kazakhstan and Iran.

The Chinese firm will work with ASPMK-519 and KEC International. The scope of the contract includes provision of a GSM-R network with fixed and mobile terminals, and other data and voice communications networks. The value of the contract is not being disclosed.

Huawei has made significant investments in railway technology, according to Liang Zhihui, President of Enterprise Business for the Central Asia & Caucasus Region, who said 'transportation is one of the key sectors that we have been focused on'.
