Impression of Network Rail's North West regional operating centre.

UK: Construction company Morgan Sindall has been awarded a £15·9m contract to build Network Rail's North West regional operating centre. Scheduled for completion by December 2013, the facility at Gorton in Greater Manchester will be one of 14 controlling operations on the national network.

The three-storey steel-framed building is to be built using 'a variety of specialist design and construction methods', according to Morgan Sindall, including laminated strengthened glass panels and curtain wall cladding. It will be highly insulated, with a 'green roof' planted with sedum to absorb rainwater.

'Our collaborative and full Building Information Modelling level 2 approach will deliver a bespoke solution to Network Rail and provide them with a state-of-the-art home for many years to come', said Morgan Sindall Area Director James Morgan.
