Rail Baltica impression

ESTONIA: Rail Baltica project promoter RB Rail has awarded a consortium of Indra subsidiary Protec and Obermeyer Planen + Beraten a €10·8m contract to provide design and construction supervision services for the 93·5 km section of the double-track route between Pärnu and the border with Latvia.

To be designed for operation at up to 249 km/h, this section of the 1 435 mm gauge railway corridor will include three passenger stations, one freight facility, nine railway bridges, 15 road overbridges, 148 culverts and 11 ‘ecoduct’ overpasses to allow animals to cross the line.

The 27-month design phase will include geotechnical investigations and detailed technical design. This will be followed 60 months of monitoring during the construction phase, including the approval of any modifications to the original design.

Prointec will apply Building Information Modelling methodology to manage the project, centralising all the information required for construction in a highly detailed 3D digital model.

  • RB Rail has called tenders for the provision of detailed technical design review and design expertise services for the Latvian section of the corridor.
