SPAIN: The first two of six CAF trams for the 12 km tramway which will link Montecarmelo in Alcalá de Guadaíra with Metro de Sevilla Line 1 at Universidad Pablo de Olavide were delivered on March 18.
The Urbos 100 trams ordered at in March 2023 a cost of €32·5m are 33 m long with a capacity of 208 passengers.
Construction of the tramway east of Sevilla began in 2007 but was repeatedly suspended, most recently in 2018. The project was revived in 2019 following intervention by the European Commission, when work began to repair assets which had been vandalised during the suspension. The project has so far cost €178m, and more than 200 people are working on the final stages of construction.
It is estimated that the tramway will attract a ridership of more than 2 million passengers/year once it opens.
