GERMANY: Augsburg public transport operator SWA has ordered a MPV VentuS-NV rail grinding and maintenance vehicle from Windhoff Bahn & Anlagentechnik for use on its tram network.
This will replace a Windhoff SF40 grinding vehicle delivered in 1996.
Features for Augsburg’s metre-gauge network will include the ability to cope with tight 15 m radius curves and steep gradients, and a sensor-controlled overhead wire de-icing system to for operation in winter conditions.
‘With this order, we are continuing our successful platform concept’, Windhoff said when the order was announced on November 7. ‘The new vehicle can make a significant contribution to the sustainable track maintenance of the tram network and to operational safety in Augsburg.’
