USA: Utah Transit Authority has ordered a further 20 Stadler Citylink light rail vehicles for TRAX services around Salt Lake City, taking its total order to 40.

The order announced by Stadler on October 28 has been placed under a October 2024 contract which included a $129m firm order for an initial 20 LRVs with options to order up to 60 more subject to funding being secured.

Stadler said its first LRVs for the US market will be custom designed for UTA, and ‘built in Utah for Utah’ at its factory in Salt Lake City.

The UTA board has approved the latest order as part of its TRAX Forward initiative to enhance and expand services over the next decade.

‘Stadler’s Utah-based facility gives us the rare advantage of working directly with our manufacturer to refine and optimise vehicle performance during production’, said UTA Executive Director Jay Fox. ‘These low-floor, fully accessible TRAX cars will enhance the customer experience, improve comfort and support our growing ridership.’
