The extension from María Montez to Pablo Adón Guzmán serves five stops, relieving the congested Duarte highway. It has a capacity of 15 000 passengers per hour per direction for a total of 150 000 passengers per day.

The initial 940 m from María Montez until south of Pedro Martínez is in tunnel, and the remaining 6·5 km to Pablo Adón Guzmán is running on an elevated structure in the west side of Duarte highway.

Limited services are running until Easter with free travel. Trains initially operate between 06.00 and 10.00 and between 18.00 and 22.00 on weekdays, over eight hours in two windows on Saturdays, and between 10.00 and 22.00 on Sundays.

‘This is not just an infrastructure project. It is a concrete response to a real need. It is a clear sign that when the state listens, plans, and perseveres — it can transform the lives of its people’, Abinader said. ‘Thousands of Dominicans in this area have spent up to an hour and a half each way to get to their jobs or schools. With this new line, the entire journey can be made in just 10 min.’
