RUSSIA: The first section of St Petersburg metro Line 6, the Krasnoselsko-Kalininskaya line, was inaugurated on December 26.
The initial section runs for just 2·6 km in the southwest of the city, linking a large residential district at Yugo-Zapadnaya to Putilovskaya, which provides interchange with Kirovskiy Zavod station on Line 1.
Construction of the line started in 2013 but the work was delayed several times. The cost was also revised upwards several times and, as of September 2025, was estimated at more than 111·3bn roubles.
Services are initially operating every 7 min. The line is being worked by two eight-car Baltiets trainsets supplied by Transmashholding. The two stations are fitted with platform screen doors to improve safety and to facilitate future automation.
An extension of the route is expected to open around 2030. Long-term plans evisage Line 6 continuing northeast towards the city centre, providing interchanges at Zastavskaya to Moskovskie Vokzal on Line 2 and at Karatnaya to Obvodnyi Kanal on Line 5.
