PLANS TO BUILD an 80?km railway from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Torvisca near Adeje were unanimously approved by a plenary session of the Tenerife island council on April 27. It is hoped that construction can begin in the second half of 2008 for completion in 2014-15.With 10% of the alignment in tunnel and 8% on viaduct, the new line would serve Acor?n, Candelaria, San Isidro, Reina Sof?a Airport and Los Cristianos, although four more stations may be added subject to the outcome of further studies also agreed by the council. End-to-end journey time would be 35?min, or 45?min for a service calling at all stations currently planned.A rolling stock maintenance depot would be built at G?imar, and interchange is planned with the Santa Cruz light rail network which is due to open this year.?
