ITALIAN Railways has taken delivery of a prototype ’Pizza Express’ restaurant car conversion from Fervet of Castelfranco Veneto, developed in conjunction with train caterer Agape. The ex-TEE vehicle now has seats for 44 customers, divided between an area with 12 stools and a second with tables for two or four. Pizzas and toasted sandwiches are cooked in the on-board oven, and a bar serves hot and cold drinks.

A static presentation of the vehicle was due to take place at Rimini in July and August, before trials in Milano - Bologna interregionale service. Production Pizza Express cars would also be deployed on Intercity services. o
