FRANCE: Celebrations including music and dancing marked the inauguration of the newest section of the Paris metro on March 23, a 1·5 km southern extension of Line 4 to Mairie de Montrouge.

The new station is the 303rd on the metro. Two of its three entrances are open, with the third, at Place Émile Cresp, due to open by the end of the year. It is expected to handle 37 900 passengers per day. The journey time from the previous terminus of Porte d’Orléans to the new terminus is 1 min; the end-to-end journey time on the 11·5 km Line 4 is 30 min.

Phase 2 of the Line 4 extension is due for completion by the end of 2019. This will see the line extended by 1·7 km to Bagneux, with an intermediate station at Verdun Sud.
