NORWAY: Oslo Gardermoen airport rail link operator Flytoget has awarded CAF a €120m contract to supply eight four-car Oaris trainsets, along with spare parts and technical support.

The new electric multiple-units are scheduled to enter services from early 2018, supplementing Flytoget’s current fleet of 16 Adtranz EMUs on services between Oslo C station and the airport and allowing a more intensive service to Lysaker. According to Flytoget CEO Linda Silseth the additional capacity is needed to support expansion at of the airport and increase rail’s market share.

Flytoget said the new EMUs would feature ‘all the latest technical developments for energy saving, environmental friendliness, safety and ease of access’, including wi-fi, power sockets and compliance with the Persons with Reduced Mobility TSI. They will be designed for a maximum speed of 250 km/h, but this would be subject to an upgrade of the infrastructure which is currently cleared for 210 km/h.
