INDIA: Project promoter Maharashtra Metro Rail Corp has begun test running on a 3·5 km at-grade section of the future Nagpur metro Line 1, using the first of two Hyundai Rotem trainsets which it has leased from Hyderabad ahead of the arrival of its own fleet of 23 trainsets in late 2018.

CRRC is to supply and maintain MahaMetro’s fleet of three-car trainsets under a Rs8·51bn deal signed in October 2016. This requires local production at a factory in Nagpur.

Siemens is supplying CBTC signalling for Phase 1 of the metro, which comprises two lines totalling 38·2 km and is scheduled to open next year.
