SOUTH KOREA: Busan Transportation Corp has awarded Woojin Industrial Systems a 34·2bn won contract to supply nine two-car rubber-tyred automated guideway transit vehicles for the Yangsan Line.

The Yangsan Line will run 12·5 km from Nopo to Bukjeong in the north of the city, with seven stations. Construction started in 2018 and opening is planned for 2026.

The peoplemover will be the second automated metro in South Korea after Busan’s rubber-tyred Line 4. The technology was developed jointly by Korea Railroad Research Institute and Woojin Industrial Systems.

The Yangsan Line vehicles will feature a collision energy absorption device, tyre puncture detection and an inspection system which will use the TE-R wireless network to provide data for preventive maintenance.

The windows will automatically darken to protect residents’ privacy when the train passes through a densely populated area.
