INDIA: IL&FS Rail has awarded Siemens a €70m turnkey contract to supply electrification, signalling and rolling stock for the 6·5 km Gurgaon metro Phase II extension.

The six-station extension to the standard-gauge line is due to open in late 2015 or 2016. It will have a capacity of 30 000 passengers/h, with 2 min peak headways.

The line will be electrified with a 750 V DC third-rail power supply. It will feature Sicas ECC electronic interlocking, LZB 700 M automatic train control and Vicos OC 501 automatic train supervision. Siemens is to supply seven aluminium-bodied trainsets with a top speed of 80 km/h.

When complete, the southern extension will bring the metro line to 13 km with 12 stations, operated by a fleet of 12 trainsets. Earlier this year Mott MacDonald was selected to undertake detailed design of the six stations on Phase II.
