PANAMÁ: The Línea Uno consortium of Odebrecht and FCC which is building Panamá City metro Line 1 has awarded Systra an 18 month contract to carry out civil engineering design studies for the 13·7 km automated metro.
Systra will prepare detailed designs for several parts of the project, including the depot and workshops situated near the southern terminus at Albrook; cut-and-cover sections and cuttings totalling 1·2 km between 12 de Octubre — Fernández de Córdoba and Curundú — Albrook; 5·2 km of viaduct for the elevated section between the northern terminus at Los Andes and 12 de Octubre; and for the five elevated stations and a partially-subsurface station at Albrook.
The line is due to open by the end of 2013.
