CHINA: The National Development & Reform Commission has approved metro plans in three cities.
Qingdao's second phase of metro development would add 181·7 km to the 50 km first phase now under construction; 40% of the cost is to be met by the government. All planned lines will be operated with six-car Type B trainsets running at up to 80 km/h, with a maximum speed of 120 km/h on Line 8.

The third phase of the Chengdu metro would add 124·2 km and five lines, taking the network to 508 km by 2020. The lines would be operated using six-car Type A trainsets, with a maximum speed of 80 km/h on Line 8 and 100 km/h on the other lines. The city is to fund one-fifth of the project cost.

The NDRC has also approved the second phase of the Guiyang metro, which would add 114·1 route-km by 2022. Guizhou province and Guiyang city will meet 30% of the cost. All lines would use six-car Type B trainsets with maximum speeds of 100 km/h (lines 2 and 3) or 80 km/h (lines S1 and S2).
