RUSSIA: Transmashholding has unveiled a mock-up of a driving car from its Ivolga 3.0 DC electric multiple-unit, which is being developed as the next model in its family of EMUs for urban, suburban and long-distance applications.

The design of the EG2Tv EMU has been developed by the National Industrial Design & Innovations Centre 2050.LAB, with production at the Tver plant.

The 160 km/h unit is being designed to offer a smooth ride, low noise, rapid acceleration and fast braking. The doors would be 1 400 mm wide, wider than previous models, to speed up passenger boarding and alighting at stations by 15%.

An 11-car EMU would have 50 more seats than an Ivolga 2.0 trainset. The seats are a revised design, with each row having foldable arm rests and USB charging points. The end cars can be equipped with bicycle racks and charging points for electric scooters.

Updated electrical equipment enabled the train to reverse direction in 1-2 min.

A passenger counting system will enable passengers to use an app to find less busy coaches, with wide gangways so that passengers can spread evenly throughout the train.
