FLIRT KM

POLAND: Koleje Mazowieckie has placed a firm order for a further 11 Stadler Flirt electric multiple-units. These will form the final tranche from a framework contract for 75, which the regional operator says is its largest-ever rolling stock investment programme.

Once all the 160 km/h EMUs have been delivered, Koleje Mazowieckie will operate 146 Flirts, making it the largest user of the train type in Poland.

‘Koleje Mazowieckie is one of the most modern regional carriers in the country, partly because it is constantly investing in new rolling stock’, said Marshal of the voivodship Adam Struzik on December 16. Koleje Mazowieckie CEO & General Director Robert Stępień added that ‘the purchase of 64 units has already received EU funding, and we will be applying for additional funding for the remaining 11’.

The EMUs are being manufactured at Stadler’s Siedlce plant, with the involvement of local partners and suppliers, and the first are expected to enter service in April 2026. The contract includes maintenance and repair services, as well as technical training for staff.

‘Completing the full framework agreement allows us to continue expanding our Siedlce operations and strengthen our presence in the region’, said Stadler Polska CEO Radosław Banach. ‘This year alone, we have created nearly 400 new jobs at Stadler Polska, and our engineering team has grown to 100 specialists — and we are still recruiting. This is excellent news not only for Stadler but also for our local partners, who play a vital role in delivering this project.’
