AUSTRALIA: Western Australia's Public Transport Authority has awarded the EDI Rail Bombardier Transportation joint venture a contract to supply an additional 10 B-Series three-car electric multiple-units for use on Perth commuter services.

Deliveries are scheduled to start at the end of 2019, ahead of the planned opening of the Forrestfield-Airport Link in 2020.

The deal announced on June 23 is an extension of a contract signed in 2011, and also includes maintenance of the A and B series fleets until 2026. It has an overall value of A$511m, of which Bombardier's share is A$61m.

The EMUs are to be manufactured at Downer's facility at Maryborough in Queensland, with electrical pre-assembly work undertaken at Bombardier’s facility in Victoria.
