
KAZAKHSTAN: The first of the coaches that Stadler is building to modernise national railway KTZ’s fleet was unveiled by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during a visit to the factory in Astana.

In December 2022 KTZ awarded Stadler contracts to supply various types of sleeping, couchette and accessible car and provide 20 years of maintenance. The 1 520 mm gauge vehicles will be designed for 160 km/h operation and a 40-year services life in ambient temperatures ranging from -50 to +45°C.

Stadler plans to produce 51 coaches in 2025 and 557 cars by 2030. The level of domestic content will be 9% in the first year of production, growing to 35% by 2029.

Liebherr Transportation Systems is supplying heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
