Stadler is to supply three trainsets for the Bergbahn Lauterbrunnen-Mürren line.

SWITZERLAND: Jungfraubahn Holding has awarded sole bidder Stadler Bussnang a SFr17·3m+VAT contract to supply three trainsets for the 4·3 km Bergbahn Lauterbrunnen-Mürren line.

Services on what the operator describes as ‘one of the most beautiful panoramic tracks in the Alps’ are currently provided using four 560 V DC electric railcars dating from 1966-67. These are to be replaced by modern low-floor vehicles to comply with accessibility legislation.

The order forms part of a comprehensive modernisation plan including station and depot enhancements which aims to prepare the short metre-gauge line for its next 30 to 50 years of operation.
