Trenitalia has awarded Alstom contracts for the supply of 25 more Jazz regional electric multiple-units.

ITALY: National operator Trenitalia has awarded Alstom two contracts totalling €170m for the supply of 25 more Jazz regional electric multiple-units. The orders announced on April 23 are options on a €440m contract signed in November 2012, and will take Trenitalia's Jazz fleet to 95 units.

The Jazz design is part of Alstom's Coradia Meridian range, and was developed for regional services in southern Europe, with a low floor and a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

Project management, assembly and certification is undertaken at Alstom’s Savigliano plant. The Sesto San Giovanni factory is responsible for traction systems, while the signalling equipment is supplied from Bologna.
