CHINA: In response to customer requests arising from the difficulties of using road transport during the coronavirus crisis, Nippon Express Co has launched a rail-based freight service from Shanghai to Wuhan in collaboration with Sinotrans.

Nippon Express said the coronavirus outbreak had led to numerous restrictions being placed on shipments to Wuhan. A rail service would enable it to offer bulk transport, on-time operation and reliable lead times, the freight forwarder said. A full container load service runs daily to Wujiashan freight terminal in Wuhan, with less than container load deliveries weekly to a Sinotrans warehouse in the Caidian Economic Development District.

The main freight is expected to be masks, food products and other relief supplies as well as general cargo, though there are restrictions on the acceptance of goods at the destination and commodity items must be confirmed in advance.

Service details are subject to change as business operations in Wuhan are restored.
