Daegu’s 61·9 km Daegyeong suburban rail line opened in December 2024, linking Gumi with Gyeongsan via Daegu station.

SOUTH KOREA: Construction has started on the fully underground Daegu Industrial Line suburban rail corridor that will link Seodaegu main line station with the Daegu National Industrial Complex southwest of the city.

Also known as the Daegusaneop Line, the entirely single-track route will be the city’s second dedicated suburban rail line. It is to serve nine stations; interchange is to be provided with metro Line 1 at Seolhwa-Myeonggok, with metro Line 2 at Gyemyeongdae, and at Seodaegu with the Daegyeong suburban rail line that opened in December 2024.

Construction is divided into three sections, with work starting on the central segment between Dalseo-gu and Dalseong-gun at the end of last year. The remaining two phases are at the final design stage.

The total cost of the Daegu Industrial Line is estimated at 1·554tr won. An end-to-end journey would be 31 min, and full opening is scheduled for December 2030.

‘With the Daegu Industrial Line project, we will build an integrated railway network connecting the southwestern region of Daegu, the National Industrial Complex, and downtown Daegu, thereby increasing the efficiency of industrial production and contributing to the revitalisation of the local economy’, Ahn Seong-seok, head of the Yeongnam regional business unit at national operator Korail, said at the groundbreaking ceremony.
