RUSSIA: Transmashholding’s Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant has delivered the first of two Type NP1 electric traction units ordered by EVRAZ’s Kachkanarskiy Mining Plant last October.

Each traction unit comprises a 7·6 MW four-axle AC electric locomotive permanently coupled to two four-axle tipping wagons, giving a total of 12 powered axles.

EVRAZ KGOK currently operates 21 Type NP1 units, which are used to haul 1 300 tonne trains from the iron ore mine.

NEVZ has so far supplied a total of 97 Type NP1 units to customers in Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine, with a further six to be delivered this year.
